Long Island extends from the boroughs of New York City to the beaches of The Hamptons. It is a heavily-trafficked area, and thousands of miles of roads crisscross the region. They all can be very dangerous, and even if you are a safe driver, you cannot eliminate all accident or vehicle risks.

Every Long Island driver needs expertly-tailored car insurance to protect themselves against the potential costs of car accidents. Let Island Wide Insurance Agency help you find the right policy.

What’s the point of coverage?

After a car wreck or other accident, the costs of your injuries, vehicle repairs or legal bills could easily cost thousands of dollars. Car insurance can help you alleviate a lot of those financial burdens by paying on your behalf. No one should face those costs alone, and with the right policy, you won’t have to.

Bodily Injury Liability Coverage

  • $25,000 bodily injury coverage per person per accident
  • $50,000 bodily injury coverage for accidents involving two or more people

Death Benefits Liability Insurance

  • $50,000 death benefits per person per accident
  • $100,000 death benefits for accidents involving two or more people

Property Damage Liability Coverage

  • $10,000 property damage liability insurance

Uninsured Motorist Coverage

  • $25,000 bodily injury coverage per person per accident
  • $50,000 bodily injury coverage for accidents involving two or more people

Personal Injury Protection (PIP No-Fault Benefits)

  • >$50,000 per person

What does liability insurance cover?

New York in an at-fault insurance state. The law requires drivers who are responsible for accidents to pay for not only their own damage costs, but also others’ losses.

  • Bodily injury coverage will pay for the medical and recovery costs of those injured in accidents you cause. It might cover other drivers, their passengers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
  • Death benefits coverage pays if your at-fault accident causes someone to die from their injuries.
  • Property damage insurance will pay for the damage you cause to another driver’s vehicle, or to their other belongings.

What is PIP coverage?

PIP insurance can pay the policyholder’s personal costs following vehicle accidents, regardless of who was at-fault. The policy might pay medical bills, lost income, household expenses, death benefits and other costs. Coverage can help pay for the injuries your passengers sustain as well.

What is uninsured motorist coverage?

Uninsured motorist coverage applies if you get hit by an at-fault driver who does not have liability insurance to pay for you. Your own uninsured motorist policy might be your only option for paying for your injuries and vehicle damage.

What is full-coverage insurance?

All drivers can and should buy other auto coverage that, while optional, might prove helpful in paying for your damage costs. That is what we call full-coverage. Some of the options you might need include:

  • Increased liability, PIP and uninsured motorist coverage above the state’s required limits.
  • Collision insurance that will pay for your vehicle’s repairs or replacement after a wreck.
  • Comprehensive insurance to cover vehicle damage from non-accident hazards. Covered damage might result from fires, theft, vandalism and severe weather hazards.
  • Underinsured motorist coverage is similar to uninsured motorist coverage. It pays for your losses if another driver doesn’t have enough liability insurance to cover your costs.[2]
  • Replacement cost insurance pays you the full cost of the vehicle if an insurer totals your car.
  • Gap insurance helps you receive money to pay off the value of your vehicle loan if you still owe money, but an insurer totals the car.
